Dr. John J. Palmatier is a retired Michigan State Police Detective Sergeant, with 27 years as a Law Enforcement Officer, and a retired military officer (MAJ.) with 26 years’ service. Dr. Palmatier received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Michigan State University, College of Social Sciences, with concentrations in Developmental and Experimental Psychology and Criminal Justice.
In 2008, while continuing to conduct field examinations on a day-to-day basis, several hundred each year, Dr. Palmatier changed his focus concentrating on advances and new discoveries in the Cognitive Neurosciences leading to publication in the International Journal of Psychophysiology of what is likely the first scientifically defensible rationale for the differential responding seen during the conduct of an instrumental assessment of credibility (polygraph) exam, in both field and laboratory contexts.
Since 1983, he has been an active Polygraph Examiner/Credibility Consultant, conducting examinations around the world. In 1991 Dr. Palmatier became the first American Law Enforcement Officer to be asked by the Chinese Government to teach polygraph, and its related sciences, in the PR China. Dr. Palmatier conducts assessments internationally, last testing in the Dominican Republic, Poland, and Serbia.
